Design that starts with the land
Permaculture design is about reading a piece of land carefully and then placing every element, from water and soil to plants, animals, and buildings, where it works best and supports everything around it. Soil Solutions provides full site analysis and permaculture design documents tailored to your property.
We look at slope, sun, wind, frost pockets, fire risk, existing vegetation, soil, and how water moves across the site. Northern California and Northern Nevada span everything from wet coastal hills to Mediterranean valleys to high desert, so a design that works in one place may not work in another.
What a design includes
A typical design covers zones (what goes close to the house and what goes farther out), sectors (sun, wind, fire, water, and views coming onto the site), water flows, soil maps, and the placement of gardens, orchards, food forests, pastures, ponds, and access. Just as important is an implementation roadmap: a sensible order of work so you build in phases you can afford and maintain.
Designs can cover a backyard homestead, a small farm, or a large ranch property.
From paper to ground
Because Soil Solutions also does earthworks, water harvesting, soil regeneration, and planting systems, we can help carry the design into reality instead of handing you a plan and walking away. Contact us to start with a conversation about your land and what you want it to become.
Getting started
Every project begins with a conversation. Tell us about your land, what you are growing or raising, and what you want to change. From there we usually recommend a site visit and, in most cases, soil testing, so the plan for permaculture design is built on what is actually happening on your ground. You will get clear recommendations and an honest sense of what to do first, what can wait, and how our other services might fit in.
