Serving Sonoma and Mendocino Counties
Soil Solutions works with farms, vineyards, orchards, ranches, and homesteads in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. The North Coast has a long tradition of small-scale and organic agriculture, and many growers here are looking for ways to build soil health and use water more wisely.
We help existing operations transition to organic or deepen their regenerative practices, and help new landowners set things up right from the start.
Coast, valleys, and hills
The region ranges from cool, foggy areas near the coast to warm inland valleys and steep hill country. Winters can bring heavy rain, while summers are dry, which means erosion control in winter and water storage for summer are both important. Soils vary widely over short distances, from valley loams to thin hillside soils.
Wildfire has also affected parts of both counties, and recovery of burned land is an ongoing need.
How we can help
Common North Coast projects include soil testing and custom microbial liquid amendments for vineyards, orchards, and gardens; water harvesting with ponds, swales, and keyline design; erosion control on hillsides; permaculture design; food forests; market garden setup; and livestock integration such as grazing in orchards or vineyards. We also offer workshops and consulting.

Getting started in Sonoma County and Mendocino County
Most projects start with a phone call or a note through our contact form. We will ask about your property, how it is used today, and what you would like it to do. Next is usually a site visit, where we walk the land, look at soil, slope, and water, and talk through options. Many people start with soil testing so the plan is built on real information. From there you get practical recommendations and a sensible order of work, whether the project is a backyard homestead or a working farm or ranch.
