Serving Placer, Nevada, and El Dorado Counties
Soil Solutions works with small farms, homesteads, vineyards, orchards, and rural properties across the Sierra Foothills of Placer, Nevada, and El Dorado Counties. From Auburn and Grass Valley to Placerville and the surrounding hills, foothill landowners face a particular set of challenges, and opportunities, that we know well.
We help people design productive, resilient properties and build the soil and water systems to support them.
Slopes, soil, water, and fire
Foothill properties are often on slopes with thin or rocky soils, where winter storms can cause erosion and summer brings months without rain. Elevation changes quickly, so frost, heat, and growing seasons vary even within a single county. Wildfire risk is a real part of planning here, which affects where plants, structures, ponds, and access go.
That makes careful design, water harvesting, and erosion control especially valuable.
How we can help
Popular foothill services include permaculture design, water harvesting with swales and ponds, keyline design, erosion control, earthworks and site prep, food forests suited to the elevation, market garden setup, and soil testing with custom microbial amendments. We can also help new farmers set up organic operations from the ground up.

Getting started in Placer County, Nevada County and El Dorado County
Most projects start with a phone call or a note through our contact form. We will ask about your property, how it is used today, and what you would like it to do. Next is usually a site visit, where we walk the land, look at soil, slope, and water, and talk through options. Many people start with soil testing so the plan is built on real information. From there you get practical recommendations and a sensible order of work, whether the project is a backyard homestead or a working farm or ranch.
